SOURDOUGH RURAL FIRE DISTRICT MINUTES
October 20, 2003 Regular Meeting Minutes

The regular monthly meeting of the Sourdough Rural Fire District was held on October 20 at the 3rd Ave. Station. Chairman Kraft called the meeting to order at 7:40 PM. Present were Trustees Geddes and Bachman. Absent by unavoidable circumstance were trustees Dayhuff and Larimer. Also present were COC Rose, Chief Crandell and media specialist, Dennis Carlson.

The minutes of the Regular September 15 meeting were presented. Bachman moved for approval and Geddes seconded. Passed and placed in the record.
• The minutes of the Special Meeting of October 5, were presented. Bachman moved for approval and Geddes seconded. Passed and placed in the record.
• The Treasurer's Report was presented. Geddes moved for approval of the report and to sign the warrants > $300. Bachman seconded. Passed and placed in the record.

Chief Crandell introduced Dennis Carlson, who was a long time local TV anchor. Dennis will be working with SFD and other valley fire services to facilitate community relations through media relationships. This item will be discussed in depth at the November meeting.
COC Rose presented a guidance paper "Questions for a Board to Consider During its Board Process/Performance Review". The Board decided to defer substantive discussion until the November meeting when all would be present. The board will be reminded to bring their Governance guidance note- book at that time.
The Board will also reevaluate its goal priorities and will continue to gather information on recruitment and retention. The Chief was directed to invite other chiefs to the meeting to discuss this goal item. In consideration of the goal discussion we will establish process action steps so as to gauge progress.
The Chief's Report was presented and discussed. (Included in the Record). The new Engine #7 has been completed and accepted by the District, and placed in service. Montana Fire Works was presented with a proposed set of terms for completion for the second truck. Those terms were rejected and the District was asked to pick up the (truck assembly) materials at Montana Fireworks. The requesting e-mail dated 10/20/03 is part of the record. New truck number two is in Whitehall, with the cab-stretch work nearly complete. The Chief is working on a completion contract for this truck with General Fire Apparatus in Spokane.
Engine #7 is under sale contract with Creston, MT RFD pending final inspection and settlement of minor service items. Bachman will provide the Title and Lien release to the Chief on request. Delivery should occur in about 1 month.
Cottonwood Station is nearing completion with septic installed and tested.
Interagency Communication is pending further meetings with USFS.
