SOURDOUGH RURAL FIRE DISTRICT The regular meeting of the Sourdough Fire District Board of Trustees was called to order by Dave Kraft at 7:40 PM on April 16. 2001. All Trustees were present (Harper at 7:50 ) as was Chief Crandell, and Dan Springer, Rae Trustee. No members of the public attended. Minutes of the March 19, 2001 were presented; Motion by Dayhuff, Second by Geddes: Approved. The fiscal report was presented and reviewed (included in the record). The Trustees signed a request for motor vehicle tax release ($258) from the county to rectify an error made in the Clerk's office. A motion for approval to sign warrants greater than $300 was made by Bachman and seconded by Dayhuff: Approved. The Mil Levy Election results were For: 963; Against: 489. The trustees had contacted the Friends of Sourdough President Kandy Rose, with their gratitude, and a more formal letter of appreciation will be sent to her. The Chief's Report was submitted (included in the record). Chief Crandell explained a county wide wildland fire drill will be hosted by SFD and will focus on the Sourdough Ridge/Triple Tree area. This will take place on June 27 with an estimated 40 response apparatus and several hundred firefighters and emergency service personnel. More planning will be discussed at the two intervening SFD Trustee meetings prior to the drill. Active training will be held in the third week of May, utilizing the generous donation of a residential structure at 4399 So. 19 th , by the owners Tom and Nikki Fink. SFD will investigate IRS rulings to see if some tax relief is possible in consideration of this donation. Geddes will ask Bookkeeper Mueller to look into this. At the request of Chief Crandell, the trustees asked that an engineering study for the station septic system be initiated. This study will consider future construction footprints, as well as capacity and design efficiency and compliance. Rae Fire Trustee Dan Springer appeared to discuss the proposed South Station training facility and equipment bay. The Interlocal Agreement signed last November between Rae and Sourdough will be implemented for purposes of the cooperative station design, construction and use. Trustees Geddes and Dayhuff will represent SFD in a joint committee with Rae Fire Department to facilitate this cooperation. Trustee Springer also informed the board of a Rae Trustee appointment to be made by the GalCo Commissioners on April 17. Geddes will send a "sentiment of the board" memo to the Commissioners (via fax) supporting the continued service of Dave Lucas and urging his appointment. Sourdough Fire Department supporter Alan Kahn has informed Geddes that his property in the vicinity of Trooper Train and North Ridge subdivision is apparently not part of the district. Geddes will provide annexation information so that Mr. Kahn can start that process. A connected matter are the speed bumps that have been installed in the Trooper Trail road. An unnamed county official stated to Mr. Kahn that the bumps would preclude response from SFD. A letter to the Planning office will be sent indicating the bumps will only affect the speed of response. Bachman will research the rationale for the bump installation. A discussion was held on establishing a mechanism to honor past and present SFD volunteers who have contributed to the organization. A permanent tribute will be developed for display in the station. Kandy Rose will be contacted and asked to help coordinate this project. The meeting was adjourned at 9:20 PM . |
